He claimed that Urban Outfitters had taken his design for their skirt.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9662\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9662\" class=\"wp-image-9662\" src=\"https:\/\/server1.webstudio.com.sg\/~staging\/ypsg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Screen-Shot-2017-10-16-at-1.01.56-PM-720x418.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"348\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9662\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/society6.com\/spires?promo=507046\">Source<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The resemblance is eerily uncanny. While the skirt was labelled \u201csold out\u201d, the words <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201clegal issue 5.22\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was found instead of the name of the skirt.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>DTL Train Model<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our local artists have not been spared from copyright infringement either. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Land Transport Authority (LTA) recently called for artists to submit their draft designs of the toy model of Downtown line train &#8211; the chosen design would then be mass produced and put on <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/knackstop.sg\/products\/downtown-line-miniature-train\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sale<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to aid the disadvantaged with their land transport needs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though he was told that his design was not chosen, Jeffrey Kong, founder of Artisan Bricks Company, found the final design selected to be astoundingly similar to the one he\u2019d submitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9664\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9664\" class=\"wp-image-9664\" src=\"https:\/\/server1.webstudio.com.sg\/~staging\/ypsg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Screen-Shot-2017-10-16-at-3.08.21-PM-720x465.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"387\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9664\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/concuzz\/posts\/10154833154761560\">Source<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe similarity is uncanny, right down to the sideways building using the same curves and plates in the front of the model,\u201d said Jeffrey in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/singapore\/lego-train-artist-jeffrey-kong-lta-downtown-line-9311230\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Channel News Asia. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LTA\u2019s rebuttal was that artists were given same sets of reference materials of the existing Downtown line trains to design the models. It seems like a good thing. This would\u2019ve been fine &#8211; except that they did not credit Collin and his friends for the artwork, even after a Facebook comment left on ITTF\u2019s page.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the ITTF didn\u2019t provide a response. Tangible or not, art is a possession that comes in all forms. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of depriving such artists of opportunities to grow by undermining their work, perhaps the bigger brands could work together with them instead.
